To: all two of you who flick by this journal in your Friends page

I know that I don't post much; expect that to become even more curtailed for a bit. After I opened my computer and dusted it... it no longer works.

Argh.

Now that really sucks.

Sorry to hear that, Mr. Timson.

You do realize the irony here... Thus far, you've demonstrated a much higher statistical frequency of posting to your blog while the computer is broken.

Seriously, though... what'd you use to dust it with? Is it completely dead, or does it get so far in the boot process and then crash?

I think that part of me just enjoys the challenge of posting via my PDA. :)

All I used was compressed air. It doesn't get anywhere in the boot process—there's power to fans & drives, but no screen output, and the diagnostic LEDs on the motherboard don't turn on at all.

Even with everything disconnected, with just CPU and PSU attached to the mobo, it behaves the same way.

Eww... Yeah, definitely sounds like some sort of component failure on the mobo. Don't suppose it's under warranty?

As I thought I said in the post, it is. And the replacement is scheduled to show up today. I'll say this about Dell: much as I might curse their proprietary hardware at times, they're very good about getting systems up and running again. :)

Ouch! That does suck.
