Couple of random comments on the movie version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which should all be spoiler-free:

It's a shame that the director won't be coming back for, well, the rest of the series.

Chris Columbus needs a restraining order forbidding him from directing any more entries; I can no longer blame the effects people for overdoing things, or the actors for being crappy. He didn't reign in or help them, respectively, as CuarĂ³n was able to do.

Hagrid, you bastard! You killed Kikis!

Having seen the movie, I like the music much better. Some of my assocations (especially for "Saving Buckbeak") were a bit off. *embarrased grin*

Well, I take that back. The music for the Knight Bus sequence still sucks.

Best line: "Yeah. I didn't think about that."

Speaking of, on one hand it's good that they're leaving Hermione's romantic future open. On the other, they're only thirteen; I think they should be leaving that stuff alone. Heck, I thought the whole Yule Ball sequence was at least a year early, too. But my perspective in this area is a bit... warped, shall we say? (All right, a lot warped. Still....) (Oops. I guess that could be considered a spoiler even beyond PoA. Sowwy if you care, but also *thwap* if you care. :D)

Also speaking of... well, actually, I probably shouldn't. :)

Damn, Gary Oldman's, well, old now....

The new Dumbledore didn't suck like I thought he would. He's like Van Westenburg to Richard Harris's Morawa. (Not that anybody reading this will get that reference. :D)

I hope that movie #4 is only going to take a year, not a year and a half. These are good--dare I say it, but the movie of Azkaban is better than the novel. (It'd have been nice to have included the explanation of the four's nicknames, but there's still enough there for a viewer to put four and three and one together.)

Oh, and I'm ticked at myself for not noticing the whole clock motif in the film (which even included modification of some sets) until they were on their way out after three turns. Subtle and insidious. I like it.
