Well, I just finished City of Pearl by Karen Traviss (or [livejournal.com profile] karentraviss if you prefer). Going in, I wasn't sure what to expect; it's the first work of her's that I've read. The only reason I even took a look at it, to be honest, was because she's writing the upcoming Star Wars: Republic Commando—Hard Contact. So, I was pleasantly surprised by the book.

Long-ish review behind here. )

Overall grade: A-.

First, let me laugh at everyone else in the building, 'cause it looks like the DNS server is down, meaning I'm quite possibly the only student in the building with Internet access. :) (EDIT: If anyone would like for me to fix their machines so this doesn't happen again, I'd be happy to.)

*ahem* Now that my moment of cruelty is over with, let me proceed to the point of this post. I visited one of the two (good) local used bookstores here, and actually came up with some decent finds (if not what I was looking for). First, Xenocide (by Orson Scott Card) in hardcover. I'd been holding off on getting it and Children of the Mind, because the hardcovers are out-of-print and my other seven Ender's books are all hardcover. (Though I wish the most recent one wasn't. But I digress....) Anyways, I figure I've given OSC enough money where I don't feel guilty about it (and won't about CotM if I find it).

The better find, though, was an ARC of [livejournal.com profile] karentraviss's Crossing the Line, not due out for another month. Happy me. :D

Now, tomorrow I need to check the other store, see if they have any other nifty stuff. (Oh, and hopefully The Price of the Stars, which is what I was looking for in the first place. ^_^)
