I hated "Journey's End". But I have a toy WALL-E, so all is good.

"Exit Wounds"

Wow. I… It'll be a while before I'm able to watch that again. Or even comment coherently on it.

Testing, testing, 1 2 3…

Originally published at Neverworld. You can comment here or there.

This is my first post in… well, years. I’ve never been good about keeping up with posts; maybe, hopefully, I’ll be able to break bad habits.

I also decided to do much like what Allyn did, and post at my site & crosspost to LiveJournal. Theoretically, posts will appear at both places simultaneously, and you can comment at both.

We’ll see how well this works. :)

I propose a new rating system for Stargate episodes. It would range from negative infinity to positive infinity, with the value being the number of viewings of "Emancipation" it cancels out. A rating of 1.0 would mean that it was good enough to make up for one "Emancipation"; a rating of -5.0 would mean that you'd need to watch "Emancipation" five times to make up for the episode in question.

(What, me rewatching "The Quest" and hating it even more than the first time? But of course!)

Casino Royale

Can you spoil a half-century-old novel? )

If you like the previous Bond movies, you should still like Casino Royale. If you didn't, you should still give it a try; it's amazing how much better it is with the silly factor removed.

Eep. Didn't mean to leave my post of last night unlocked. Apologies to anybody with issues with it, philosophical or otherwise.

Proposal 2 passed?

I'm… pleasantly surprised.

As for the rest… *shrug* What will be, will be.

Rewatching the first season of Battlestar Galactica. I'll probably have more comments later, but for now I just wanted to point out that apparently Doc Cottle beat House to the painkiller addiction ("Six Degrees of Separation").

As I'm sure nobody reading this is surprised to find out, I bought Diane Duane's The Empty Chair when it was released on Monday. What should surprise you is that it took almost 36 hours for me to finish it. I don't really have a review; it's more of a spoiler-laden commentary… )

I think that this week's Battlestar Galactica was a very good Stargate episode.

Hmm.

Now that I have ten times the disk space at my web host—200+ GB—I really ought to get around to setting up some sort of offsite backup for my machine…

*headdesk*

It's been… well, okay, I don't know how many years it's been since I started reading the Dune novels. At least seven years, since Frank Herbert's son's prequels hadn't started coming out yet. And possibly longer.

Yet I only just this morning realized what the title of the last one (Chapterhouse: Dune) meant.

You may now commence the clue-by-fourage.

Moved into the apartment. Haven't built the desk yet—the power screwdriver was left at home, so that'll hopefully happen tomorrow. So for now the computer lives on the floor.

Hopefully the teachers will resolve their contract negotiations and end the strike tonight.

Scratch that. Hopefully they won't.

"The Pegasus Project" is probably my favorite Atlantis episode since "The Siege, Part 1". :)

Listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest score in iTunes with the visualizer on is like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey but with better music.

Testing

Let's see if this newfangled "posting from Word" works—and how ugly it looks.

Edit: That's got to be the least-broken HTML I've ever seen Word put out. Don't like the hard-coded font size, but it could be much, much worse.

*gasp* Another update!

I'm bored. And need something new to read. Preferably big fat space opera, along the lines of Weber, Bujold, or Zahn's good stuff. I've kinda blown through all their books recently, so I'm looking for someone new.

I'll also take any fantasy recommendations, so long as there's no dragons. I tried Naomi Novik's books, but found that Anne McCaffrey has too thoroughly warped my mind to make them enjoyable. (Let me preempt [livejournal.com profile] brendan_moody's A Song of Ice and Fire recommendation—I'm looking for something a bit less... heavy.)

Thank goodness the new mobo arrives tomorrow...

To: all two of you who flick by this journal in your Friends page

I know that I don't post much; expect that to become even more curtailed for a bit. After I opened my computer and dusted it... it no longer works.

Argh.

Is there anybody out there who can hear me?

Originally published at Neverworld. You can comment here or there.

For those of you looking for my old site—sorry to disappoint you. I hope to have all the old content up, if not linked to from here, “soon”. I’m in the middle of a fairly substantion renovation, as you may have noticed by the presence of Wordpress as opposed to my… old… site. :)

This is probably going to be a fairly drawn out process; my site is pretty much at the bottom of my priority list, especially once the old tools are restored. Until I get this into a more functional page, all I can ask is that you bear with me for the nonce.

Update: If the new 404 page has redirected you here, welcome. ;) Also, my BattleTech timeline has been uploaded to the site.
